Camp Poem

Camp or No Camp
Family Camp, 2020

Written by Judy Karnes

Corona Virus 19 came out of the blue –
And struck the world as around it flew.
Our lives were cancelled all over the place –
Family Camp for this year we had to erase.
But Wait! – Up rode our Heroes, so bold and brave –
“We can have Virtual Camp! It we can Save!”
“Oh, joy!” we shouted. “Hip-hip hooray!”
Our techy guys and gals saved the day.
Each day was planned for us to share –
Videos, memories, classes planned with care.
Morning meetings and campfire too –
There was still a lot for us to do.
But, alas and alack, we still had to cook!
And no Shady Rest to chat or read a book.
Classes were held and Zoom visits too.
We even had Name That Tune! So much to do!
We celebrated our Grads and wished them well.
We managed the week without ringing the bell!
We remembered past activities throughout the week.
Recalled a Wedding and an engagement, with a peek.
We hear about God’s Outrageous Grace!
We belong to God, held in His embrace.
Are we separated from God? Lost? Far away?
God never leaves us or gives up – Just pray!
God comforts and embraces us completely,
We’re surrounded by His love, so sweetly.
Our big celebration honored Doug Norris –
Fifty years of Family Camp – Raise a chorus!!!
Fifty years at camp teaching and preaching –
His words and leadership, far reaching.
He changed our lives for the better each year.
We were blessed by his leadership so dear.
Thank You for all your years –
We celebrate Doug and give him Three Cheers!

Thanks for Virtual Camp – so cool!
Maybe next year we can meet in the pool!
Wear your mask, wash your hands, stay apart –
See you in 2021 in the place so dear to our heart!
God bless you and keep you –
Keep in touch – That’s what we do! Tootle do!
